Picture contributed by Mike who says there were only five of these hats made and tested years ago in Poland. Note the obvious resemblance to some of Joe Savoie's work.

The Fannin Air Hat

5/4/2006
Just in, a picture of the Fannin Air Hat as it continues to evolve. Says Hank of the first pictures received by offshorediver.com (below):

That photo was of the original prototype. I have since made several mods and design changes and think I have a much better looking and more functional Air Hat. I've almost finished testing and so far the results are outstanding. Every diver that has dived this hat all agree it's without doubt the best they have used. The diver has near 360 degree vision around plus a top port for looking up. The double exhaust has a quick vent  feature, it's lined inside for comfort,

insulation and noise reduction, has a built in easy to use ear clear pad. The helmet rests on the divers shoulders when out of the water to eliminate neck injury and muscle strain. It comes with a removable soft carrying handle. The neck dam has hyperstretch neoprene for a comfortable and leak-tight seal and a positive lock feature. The shell is 1/8 inch thick naval brass, you can pound on this helmet with a hammer. I've still got some deep water testing to do after which I may start offering these hats for sale.
BTW - Great web site.

Looks like we might have another air hat on our hands. If this keeps up, we'll, have to move Fannin's hat to the Metal section of the gallery. Go Hank!

"The Fannin Air Hat I designed and built myself. It's solid naval brass and built after the style of early heavy gear hats. It has a neck dam for quick donning and with 4 ports allows one to see above and out the sides. I'm in the final testing stages and thinking about going into production."

Not really a freakshow, but how many times have you seen something like this?
