From the Diver's Forum 20100612. Apparently an article frm the AP:
BUCHANAN, N.Y. (AP) — A diver who was working under 14 feet of water died Monday at the Indian Point nuclear power plant, officials said.
State police said there was no immediate evidence of a crime or an accident, and plant owner Entergy Nuclear said there was no sign of equipment failure.
Lloyd Beare, 45, of Barnegat, N.J., was pulled unconscious from the plant's discharge canal Monday morning when he stopped answering routine communication checks, Entergy said. Resuscitation attempts failed, and he was pronounced dead at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor.
Beare had been preparing for maintenance work on a wall that separates the discharge canal from the Hudson River. The canal is used to send water back to the river after making steam or cooling a reactor.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday. Entergy said an investigation was under way.
Beare worked for Dryden Diving of Woolwich Township, N.J., which had a contract with Entergy. Dryden referred calls to Entergy.
Forum comment:
"OSHA, NY State Police, and Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant have all conducted their initial investigations. All equipment was retained and inspected, by whom is unknown by me at this time, but deemed to not be the initial cause of the death. We received this via a safety meeting on a totally unrelated dive job within Local 1456's jurisdiction. I personally know other workers that were at the scene, but not working for Dryden. CPR was attempted, but did not resuscitate Llyod. Initial cause was believed to be a heart attack, but the coroner's have not released the autopsy results yet. Lloyd's viewing was held today in Newville, PA, which is believed to be where his parents reside. We were told that he was not presently married, nor did he have any children. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Godspeed Lloyd."
